"Hmph," Susie calmed down, and washed the drool of her chin. "Rodents have no gods. Life is short. It isn't wasted praying to a false deity for a good end because there are no good endings. All life ends with teeth." She clicked her own teeth together for emphasis.
"If I really wanted," Susie grumbled, "I could lead a pack. Perhaps in the future, when my powers have grown. I am a rabbit of some already. Let me show you a demonstration ..."
Susie stood up, brushing some dirt off her chest, then became still. Her ear twitched. Sounds of rocks grating together came from within her. Her body grew bigger, her round face became a square muzzle with huge canines, and her legs expanded with muscle. At the end of her transformation, Susie was a white tiger with rabbit ears and squat tail.
"Would a wolf serve me if they knew I could do this?" Susie's voice had become a forbidding roar and she laughed.
